Shalbourne & Ham WI 2011 Annual Report
In accordance with the aims and objectives of the WI, we have enjoyed a varied programme during the year.
We started the year with a Fun Evening of Skittles and Scrabble with friends from Great Bedwyn and Hungerford WIs. In February one of our members Wendy Skardon passed on her expertise in Speechcraft. Our AGM was followed by a baked potato supper cooked by the committee. In April we had a demonstration of how to make a rosebud corsage after which we all had a go at making one. ’What be this then?’ was the title of an interesting talk on agriculture implements. The Garden meeting in June was sadly held indoors due to inclement weather. At our July meeting we were shown how to make a box using Origami and with a bit of help we all managed to make a box using sheets of coloured paper. In September a local photographer shown us examples of her work and gave us useful hints to take better photos. Some myths about bats were dispelled by an enthusiastic ‘batman’. An evening spent at a local jewellers was very interesting. We finished the year with a Christmas meal at a local restaurant.
Members have attended Group meetings to experience drumming and hear the story of Mary Seacole. One member attended the Annual Council Meeting in Salisbury. Two members were invited to Hungerford WI’s 80th Birthday party and Great Bedwyn WI’s Christmas party.
We provided teas for an Open Garden in Ham and held our Annual Christmas Bazaar.
